August 1 – 23, 2008 Communi-Serve

Objectives:

  1. To identify and conduct a number of service projects during the first 3 weeks of August 2008 by combining our people and financial resources.
  2. To grow in Community with others in the body of Christ as we serve together.
  3. To build relational bridges with others in our Community as we serve to meet a need.
  4. To be prepared for, pray for, and look for opportunities while serving to give those we are serving (or serving with) an authentic opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel.
  5. To celebrate God and His work in us, among us, and through us during a Community Worship and Praise Event on August 24, 2008, at 5 Rocks Amphitheatre.

Method of Ministry:  Emmanuelism – (Showing & Telling)

  • Showing God’s love, character, and His presence with us in our community through our service.
  • Telling the good news of God’s grace and truth as God is recognized through us to those who are willing to hear.  

Scriptural Focus:  Matt. 28:18-20; Luke 10:1-24; John 1:14; 2 Cor. 3

PALS PAINTING & LANDSCAPING

Description:  4 rooms that need painting and some minor landscaping needs (pulling weeds, trimming bushes, etc.)  All the paint supplies will be provided.  Volunteers may also bring their own brushes, rollers, etc.

“AUGUST BASH” - FOSTER YOUTH COUNCIL KICK-OFF

Description:  Membership of this FYC is open for young people from the ages of 14-21 and is designed to teach young adults skills to learn, grow and thrive as productive adults/citizens.  This project will include providing a meal for approximately 150 people (about ½ teens and ½ adults) and the opportunity to openly visit with all who are in attendance.

Date:  August 16, 2008 (5-8 p.m.)

Number of Volunteers Needed:  12-20:  several to help set-up, prepare, and serve the meal, and several to visit with people during the meal.

FOSTER HOME SHEET ROCKING

Description:  Interior Sheet Rocking and painting for a foster family living in a small home with 1 parent, a set of grandparents, and 5 children with 4 under the age of 5.  Volunteers already have an open door to share.

SINGLE/FOSTER PARENT OIL CHANGES

Description:  Free Oil Changes for single/foster parents who sign up with Mona Tarin @ MTarin@iccu1-2.org

Date:  Saturday, August 9, 2008 from 9a.m. – 3p.m.

Number of Volunteers Needed:  12-16: 4 to help with the oil changes from 9a.m. to 3p.m., some to visit / share the gospel with folks while they’re waiting, and some to entertain the kids of parents who are waiting. (number of volunteers will vary depending on time slots volunteered for.)

BACK-PACK DRIVE

Description:  To provide a back-pack full of school supplies: (pencils, pens, notebooks, rulers, scissors, water bottle, etc.)

Number of Volunteers Needed:  Totally open!

FOOD BANK CONSTRUCTION

Description:  To construct 1-2 12’x’24 store houses to store food for the Potter’s Wheel Ministry and other community needs as able.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HOUSE PROJECT

Description:  Construction of a Habitat for Humanity Home in Gering, NE
